MARIKO JACINTO

Mariko Jacinto was born to a Japanese mother and Filipino father, and she brings her intimate knowledge of both cultures to bear on her paintings, in particular, the humanist outlook and the doctrine of impermanence are concepts visible in her works.

As a figurative artist, she is not finicky, and she paints people with disarming directness. Her “Club Series” might have easily been a cynical exposé, in the vein of Toulouse-Lautrec, of city nightlife, but instead there is an undercurrent of human sympathy.
